Jazz Clubs

In 2011 Marianne set up Guildford Jazz, and was asked to co-found Fleet Jazz the following year. Both clubs run regular jazz nights and have developed a large and enthusiastic following. There’s more information about both clubs below:

Guildford Jazz

Guildford Jazz not-for-profit organisation whose aim is to bring great live jazz from some of Britain’s finest musicians to a local audience, in an intimate and welcoming jazz club environment. GuidlfordJazz_titleonyKnown to locals as the ‘Ronnie Scott’s of Surrey’, the club has welcomed nearly 6000 jazz fans and 400 musicians since it’s re-formation in 2011 , and has developed a national reputation as a regional centre for jazz.

Guests have included world-class players such Mark Nightingale, Dave O’Higgins, Julian Arguelles, Iain Ballamy, John Etheridge, Mark Lockheart, Bobby Wellins, Stan Sulzmann and many more.

At the end of 2012 Guildford Jazz expanded into the Electric Theatre, where the monthly Jazz Cafe evenings have become a popular feature of the Theatre’s programme.

The club is also committed to furthering jazz education locally. By providing workshops and performance opportunities for younger jazz students and local jazz musicians we aim to encourage people of all ages to be inspired to achieve more through music.

The club runs a monthly jam session for local musicians to play together and has recently started working with local schools to run workshops with visiting jazz musicians, many of whom teach at the national Music Conservatoires.

There’s more information about the events that we run on the Guildford Jazz website, www.guildfordjazz.org.uk. and if you would like to be kept up to date please join the mailing list here.

Fleet Jazz

Fleet Jazz was started in January 2012 by chairman Mike Rance, a regular visitor to Guildford Jazz who asked Marianne to help set up a similar club in Fleet. Fleet jazz club logos
